The Early Beginnings of Orientalism in India From William Jones to William Goldsack Extracted from a doctoral dissertation entitled: William Goldsack's Method and Views in the Study of Islamic Doctrine (An Analytical and Critical Study)

Abstract

Abstract:
This research examines the early beginnings of Orientalism in India and its impact on the Orientalist and/or missionary William Goldsack. The study begins concurrently with the arrival of some Westerners and British influence in India through the East India Company, extending up to the period of William Goldsack. The research highlights the intersection of Orientalist activity with colonial and missionary interests, as well as the significant shift in the administration of India following its subjugation to the British Crown in 1858. Additionally, the study provides an analysis and description of Orientalist output during these stages and its influence on Islamic studies in India.
